Some may know Farmer from his time under the Monarch Mtn name. Happy to see Western Vinyl has picked up on what a talent this guy is. 'Still No Mother' delivers such a subtle venom, one that works its way into the bloodstream long after the music has ended. Farmer's music impacts in much the same way as that of Damien Jurado or Bill Callahan. The songs seem as if they've been on rotation for many years, like visiting an old friend, instantly familiar and welcoming.

Australian songwriter Tamara Westwood, who describes herself deliberately as a trans girl, and fights for the cause of transgender people, attributes her songs to the "dreamo" genre. Actually, that's quite descriptive of what's to be found on "The Fifth", releasing me from the task of finding an appropriate genre myself. The music sounds remarkably full-fledged for a DIY album labeled "bedroom pop" - absolutely not lo-fi or bedroom-bound.
